Sphere 0402

One in a series of unique, original pieces that evolved out of my Scot-Irish heritage and an interest in Celtic art. Each sphere is wonderful to hold and shows you a different face every time you set it down. Please see "About the Work" below for a complete description.

About the Work

I shape and carve my spheres one at a time, entirely by hand. Each sphere is signed and each is sold by number to insure that the one you see is the one you receive. I use a high-fire stoneware clay and iron oxide to bring out the detail. The spheres have a gentle rattling sound, rather like a "round rainstick." All are sturdy enough to be shaken and compelling enough to simple be observed.

I have been a clay artist for 10 years. This current work began when I was studying archetypal art therapy in graduate school. The over/under, unbroken design appeals to my love of things Celtic and my fascination with metaphor. I live and work in the Ozark mountains.
